Rob Whitwell's Jago 32 from 1979 At Belle Vue I think?
I Remember it being the closest to the real thing, you could get in a fiberglass Rod
over here in the UK. It was quite exciting at the time I remember dreaming about
owning one like this all my waking moments. The only fault I had with it was the screen looked a bit dodgy, though with work it was made
acceptable by Rob.
It is still about or at least it aint been ripped apart and sold off in bits and
I think it is being rebuilt if memory serves me well. (update)
Rob has let me into some of the background of its build and he was only 19yrs
old when he built the coupe. He couldn't afford a proper screen surround so made
a facsimile out of fablon. I am even more impressed now I know a bit more about
it. What an achievement this Rod was, at a time when most of us could only dream
about it, and to be constructed in the 70's by a Teenager is just Amazing and a
true Milestone in Uk Rodding *respect*
Puddle Jumper now sporting a V12 Jag, Hefty box
Chassis, Jag suspension all round and new paint, rear charging
Rhino mural was redone. Was re-put together by my mate Harry Dawson Top
Bloke in the 80's.
John Spats Wilkies Y, a nice story that springs to mind was I was filling up
with fuel and in came Johns misses in the Y loaded up with camping gear I asked
if she could tell me the way to the Rod Run as I was lost and she said follow me
and so I cruised in with her in the Y and Hubby in the 32 Sedan with me in a
Jacked Mk3 Cortina ;>)..

The Devil 33 Plymouth Drag Car My favourite well apart from All's
Gasser that is ;>).

These two photos were sent in by Terry Harmsworth and show
Nick Butlers Amazing Revenge from the 70's Blown and just the most innovative
Rod to hit the UK Scene and hard to be beat now. Also Ray Christopher's V8 Milk
Float, Ray also did some amazing creations in the 70's one I can remember was a
V8 Helicopter????
One
of my old mates Crazy Odge, this photo was sent in by Dave Pritchard. It shows
Odgies 302 powered Pop at the second Bardsea Rod Run in 197?. I knew it was a
cool Rod in those days now looking at a photo of it I can see it was even better
than I remember Jag ifs, no front fenders and std roof height all
add to the proper look Hey and this was the 70's all jacked up and such what
taste and vision Odgie had the whitewalls on chrome steels are just Wow don't ya
think now if you want inspiration for a new style rod for the Millennium what
more do ya need go do it! is it still around in someone's lock up? I remember
now why it had no front fenders Odgie sitting on a wing revving the bollix of it
while setting it up and it jumped out of neutral and shot across his truck yard
and smashed through a fence with Odgie still hanging on for grim death and
trying to get the strength to shut the throttle of as he hurtled into oblivion
;>) Well almost he crashed through a fence and into an adjoining
field........ Funny? Hell yes even at the time but how different it would
of been if the field had been a brick wall eh! Proper character and I feel
blessed to know him!

Gary Belchers Awesome V12 T what ever happened to it?. It was
mind boggling at the time well hell still would be though there is another new
V12 T out now see the features pages. Cool 12 spokes look great and stronger
than cycle wheels I wager. (Photo from Dave Pritchard) Up date: what happened to
Gary Belcher's V12T it's in the Haynes (as in car manuals) Museum in
Somerset.

Another Ray Christopher creation Cement T at Belle Vue with
the US Crossley in the background which was brought over just for the show.

Rainy City Stand with Pete Gething's C cab the foreground we were great mates
at one time.! Nicely made C cab named Temptation
though. Hey happy days.... (photo courtesy of Dave Pritchard)
