We went to the Sheffield Show on Sunday only. It's not a bad run as its only 25 miles from my house. We set off at the unusually late time of 10.30 but were there just before 11am ;>) The showfield was already nearly full. The weather at home was sunny with a cloudless sky, but as we neared Sheffield it was overcast with some dark grey clouds and it was bl**dy freezing.
This is the sight to greet us as we walked into the showfield.
We walking towards the parked show cars and straight away I saw my mate's Al and
Andy.
Superb '59 Mercury wagon which runs
beautiful billet wheels and airbags. I love the way they've scribbled notes onto
the bodywork with a permanent marker :-)
'34 was very well finished. Ran a Rover V8 with Holley carb.
Al's Fordson, featured in CC sometime in 2000. Runs a blown '96 350
SBC, Wisbech IFS and 9 inch rear. Al's done a few bits since buying it to make
it better, including raising the ride height slightly which looked nicer than
when it was low, plus removing the spool from the 9 inch so he could turn round
in car parks ;-)
Kookie style T-Bucket, Ran an Escort or similar axle with chrome transverse spring.
In fact, most things were chrome LOL.
Just
after I'd taken this pic I heard 'Alright Matt'. Errrr.........I couldn't
remember who the hell it was until he said "Can't you remember me, I'm
Shane" Errr.....sorry mate. It'd those dark shades you were
wearing at Drayton hehe. Anyway, we had a good chat while looking over this '57
Chevy Nomad. It's a really beautiful car, and was apparently for sale for £15K.
When were were in Florida there were at lot lower quality Nomads going for high
money, the one we saw was $27K which makes this sound quite cheap ;-) That's
Shane in the background by the way. It was supposedly owned by one of the Steel
City members and his wife, but when they got divorced it had to go.
UK-Hotrods e-mail group member John Denton's superb Rover 75 pickup. A superbly finished
Rod, it runs a Rover V8. At around this time, it got colder, then it started to
rain. It was absolutely banging down for about 20 minutes, that 'wet' rain that
soaks you to the skin, even though it looks really fine.
This T Doctors Coupe is the most stunning paint finish I've seen for ages. Far
from being a metallic paint, it's a base colour with lacquer, now that is some
talent to make it look like that. Though I don't particularly like the style,
the finish on everything is perfect.
Now this was the first car I couldn't decide what style I'd do it if I owned
it. Gangsta Rider or Lo-rider, whatever, the suicide rear doors are a
brilliant and std on the 72 Lincoln the only Production car to ever have them I
think. Only mods I think where that it had been lowered but that's about it.
Couple of lovely cars, a '40 Chevy Sedan owned by somebody in the Steel City
club (ex Mike Key, photographer extraordinaire I think) and '35 Ford Sedan
owned by somebody in the North Yorkshire Hot Rodders. Both fine finished cars.
Some great nostalgia cars turned up, Mark & Melissa Gee's Merc and Model
B coupe, Adrian Smiths super channeled A coupe and Gaz O'Connor's superb Moon
Speed Shop truck (Built by Chico, Mooneyes owner) . Gaz' truck won an award
but I'm not sure about the others.
