Woke up with the lark (Like Ya Do) no thick head because we didn't over rev the night before. We all sat and watched Bakey's primus stove bore/boil a pan of water to make the Coffee, it took so long we were wide awake before the water boiled *yawn* Had another cup or two while the water was still hot enough as we couldn't go through that again, it would be dark and time to go home by the time it boiled another pan full.... :>)........Coffee drank and it was time we set about enjoying the already Hot Sunny Show and shine day lets get in that show field and see some Rods !! Yeeha!
We had a drive up to the
Gas station first to get filled up while there was no queue and also just as an excuse
to have a cruise round to see what was about. It felt real good having a burble
round and taking a few snaps and nodding at other Rodders like ya do.....
Coming back to our camping area I met Gaz O'Connor in his real Horny Hemi Powered chopped and channeled to death 34 Truck it made me tingle to see it actually moving. So I stopped to shoot the breeze with me owld mate Gaz and have a proper shufty at the Sexy Truck....... I love the fuel lines in red tube looks like blood flowing through it, it just sits real Groovy don't it. Gaz has made a corking job of rattle canning it in Black suede and keeping the original Moon Decal on the doors. Gaz showed me the dated 1950's inscription in the cabs roof immortalizing the fact it had a roof chop in the 50's with the dudes name and all, which is quite a thing and sends a shiver down your spine to think it was done all the time ago and the guy sat inside and emblazoned it in the roof pan Cool eh! From the 4 x 97's to the tall crossplies it shouts "I'M A HOT ROD". I was invited to have a sit in it and it was wild looking out of the sun-visored chopped Screen and sitting flat on the floor was crazy I bet a long journey would be fun....... as there is a bolt that sticks right in ya back well at least ya wouldn't fall asleep at the wheel that's for certain, have a proper look at it next time ya see it see if you can look without making a trouser tent ;>)
Well it was now polish the car time and get it on the field time *groan* I hate polishing........... so I'll just give it a wipe over that will do Bakes checks his fluids in his guzzling big V8 Rover *wink* and duly tops up what needs topping up and we eventually go to the show field which is already filling up quickly with lines of rods Yanks and stuff all baying for attention.
Bakes goes off and joins the Pop Festival line up which this year is being run by Spence, who set off Thursday in his day van with the misses following behind in his V6 Pop. He stops at a junction and his misses behind doesn't whoops!!! resulting in a bent Pop and Caravan *shame*. Showing true Rodding spirit both Spence and his wife take the Pop back home lean it up against a wall and then go back on the road and up to Billing not wanting to let the other Pop owners down with the 2nd Annual Pop Festival good eh! Thankfully his wife was ok the young girl passenger was a bit sore but Ok, Apparently his brakes had a failure but Spence vows it will live again That's the Spirit
I parked the 34 and was greeted by Paul Gartside who has the Real Amazing blue A Delivery with the Nos2 gas bottles in the rear. I decided from Drayton Manor I was going to stay and talk longer with people and have proper look at the cars I liked rather than the usual quick stutter, gibber and then run off to the next car/person. So I had a great talk with Paul who has built one beautiful Rod with exquisite attention to detail you can look and look and still see more beautiful work everywhere the head consul, the engine bay, the suspension, the bonnet stay's Man I could fill a page just describing his great A.. He has a Top Rod that has taken 7yrs of his heart and soul to build, oh and it is his first Rod by the way it is a credit to his ability and vision a true work of art for sure *nice one*
I said I'll seeya later and went on my walk about to see what else gave me the tingle....... Just as I was about to set about me trek, Phil Mallas arrives from Yorkshire in his Superb Red 34 and his Mate Louis Turner in his eyeball attacking Flamed fenderless 32 Yeah Baby.... So my walk about was curtailed some what while I had the crack with them, we always seem to get on on great so it was not a quick oh Hi seeya later it was a good old crack catching up on what we had all been up to since we last met.... two real nice Guys two real nice Rods!
Now it was time to get on with the search for the cars that stood
out to me and there were plenty Oh Boy was there Plenty so this may end up about
3 pages long so pay attention at the back this will be a long read and I will be
asking question on it later.
I thought these two Kustoms looked good together it is so easy to try to hard
with a Kustom and make em look a bit cluttered but these two were clean with no
nonsense just tasteful mods, I loved the frenched headlights and grill treatment
on the Black suede one, brizz bumpers and wheel caps work fantastic together, like
the scalloped one has smooth bumpers and smooth wheel caps Cool eh!
This Mad looking 27T made me sit up with its Flat MT's and fad T style headers
extended turtle deck all made it look quite Mad and worked for me.. Oh if you
just look in the background you can see Louis's flamed B and Phil's red 34
parked next to my34 who I was talking to earlier not got far have I....Then this
Blue 32 made me stop in my tracks, it just flows from end to end and corner to
corner with all he right bits with no
contradictions which is hard to do Groovy!
UK Rodding's best kept secret eh *wink* Paul Kennedy's real Nutz 33 Willys. Don't
you dare put anything on your web site about it as I want it to be a shock to everyone
when I take it to Drayton Paul told me at the Swap meet earlier in the year so I
was sworn to secrecy..... well Drayton came and went Paul hadnt polished his
Willy good enough so it was to be Billing before he could finally show us it in
all its Glory and it was worth waiting for though a secret in UK Hot Rodding err
no way everyone knew about it :>).... Rodding to small to be able to
keep something this wild a secret.. It is a genuine 60's Gasser which Paul ended
up with because he is such a real guy and the owner wanted someone who
understood it and appreciated what it was and do a sympathetic reincarnation of
it and Paul has done this for sure even down to getting all the decal done as
the original did using old 1960's photos and certain tricky bits where handled
by and old boy in his 70's which was kinda neat, Paul's only deviation from the
original Gasser because this is gonna be a driver as all his Rods are the front
is somewhat lower than the 60's Car which was just built for strip action
really. It had thrown the blower belt so wasn't a proper Runner but Paul could wait
no longer and became a very reluctant Trailer queen and anyone who know him
knows he would of been squirming at the thought but he could not disappoint his
fans could he.............I am real looking forward to seeing this on the move
and I dare say it will make it to Preston Cruise under it's own steam very soon Wild!!!
with a capital W............
"I suppose a Trucks out of the question"
which one would you choose I would sell
my soul for either of these two trucks to be in my garage. The 46 has a
fantastic looking cab and grill and I am glad to see someone daring to be
different with the wheels and going all modern like.. though ya gotta admit
polished ARE's just always do it. I try to not put Rod Truck etc on if I have
put them on before on the show page but I just think this 53 Chevy of Phil
Middleton deserves to be seen again and again maybe it is because I am just so
into Trucks but I could take this truck to bed couldn't you or is that kinky
:>)
Green and Groovy F100 and Crayzeee Mk1 Cortina ya know apart from Paul Kennedy's
Willy's this Mk1 was the hardest car to get a photo with nobody round it of all
the Cortina's the Mk1 is my favourite shape probably cus they were the how car when
I was a lad I could never afford one :>) still couldn't if it was this this
one I bet :>) But hey now I am all grown up the F100 is more me and the 56 is
the best style again sits great don't it, I saw this one drive onto the field
and it seemed to have a nice ride set up being so low I thought it may have no suspension
travel but this seemed to boing along like a good un. I had a bit of a crack
with the owner and it has torsion bar front so it can be lifted or lowered to
your desired ride height good eh!
How d'ya like ya Blocks Big and Nasty Please is the order of the day here 40's Willys
must blow ya brains out onto the rear parcel shelf mustn't it when ya slam the
go pedal...... Hey am I sounding like and American Journalist now or what
terrrrr wouldn't think I was from Cumbria like eh!
There was just something about this Red A that grabbed me by the eyeballs and
made me stop and look gob open and dribbling. I think it was the Red Steels,
paint and interior that did it..... it sits cool has no bullsh*t it's just a
Real neat neat Rod. Oh And was built by the Prolific Northern Rod Builder Gary
McCormack and used most of his beautiful A Bone Truck parts. It is owned and
driven by his Rodding wife Sam *respect*
Kookie style T Bucket was groovy and 30's? style Track T has just simply amazing
style-wise I loved it!
(Left) No expense spared on the Hood stay on this gorgeous 40's Pontiac another
Class act by the Stream clan this time Gary Streams can these guys build a Rod
or what (Right) Cossie powered
Moggy must be a wild ride more pipes than the royal Highlanders Scots Band.
John Denton's Wife's Lowboy was soooo Right with the Mexican blanket interior,
std air pan (needs a caddy one John:>)) Radial whitewalls didn't look out of
place built to use and looked fantastic on the move see page 1 Nice one!! Well
gonna have a break now before page 3 this is where I went to the food stands had
a Bacon Burger and a coffee seeya for now!
