Tas been a long time since I used to go to the Pod and really I am not that
interested in it anymore. Don't know why, as it is far better now the
facilities, the Cars and the Terminal speeds are awesome. Reason
I went to the main event was my old mate Smax had come over from Canada to run
in Top Fuel and the least I could do is make the effort to support me Buddy,
after he has come all this way, he was sponsored by the Bull Dog Bash guys (HA)
aswell cool or what!!
I went there with my good friend Nige and his ly'lle Lad Sam, Smax had done a clutch in the Rail the day before and his crew had worked all night sorting the motor, that I guess had other problems to. He was surrounded by Fans and guys he knew when we got there, and all the time people were coming up to him, which he greeted like long lost friends and others wanted photos and autographs... that's when I realised me old mate WAS famous after all... I felt a tad sad that I had to share him now with so many people, but happy cus he was revelling in it. We said we would see him later and went for a look round the pits.
There really are some cool looking early styled bodied cars used for Dragging.
We met a few Rodders walking about to, Pike and Suzy being 2 I know well, and
Crafty from the ukhotrods e-mail group. Once the racing started we got a pitch
on the banking, and low and behold who was stood right next to us.. but Dave
Brown (Mega A40 Van) and his wife Lesley and their son.... How uncanny was that,
to choose the exact same place to stand and watch the racing. We had a good
natter and watched some great racing even a 4.5sec run... WoW...
Smax did a massive burn out but couldn't get reverse, so that was the end of his day's racing. We went round to commiserate and same as last time, everyone wanted a peice of him... We waited patiently for our turn to get a piece of him and he said just give me a few minutes as I want to go have a drink with ya!!!!
We had a good old crack swapped a few stories over a beer, then went and watched some more racing.. A great day out and we did managed to spend some time with an old mate... ;o)
On the way back we stopped at Dusty Laugher's, had a cuppa and a natter then looked at the progress on his Groovy A sedan, looking Pukka with its
sectioned 38 Truck grill... Seeya all at Billing !
