Hot Rods Drag!

The Annual Hot Rod Drags organised by the NSRA was a belting weekend, the flathead meltdown guys were out in force and man were there some cool looking Dude's and Rods amongst em. It is events like this, that really do give us an insight, into the Trad scene, that you don't seem to get at the normal Rod Runs.

The Trad guys keep coming out with some cool rides, looks a bit more Hill Climb that Drag Strip but still a beautiful machine.

I arrived along with my Buddies Bakey and Pudzz, we just went in Bakey's daily as he didn't fancy a trip in his Pop without a good coat of looking at first and he just had no time to spend on it, so the daily it was. I think there were many many more Rodders there in daily's this year to, more than I have seen any other year I think... or there were more people there??? Langy was one who was holding up the Rodders flag by taking 2 cars there, Steve in the Cool F100 and Sue (his partner) in the Pink T. I was soon told about Sue's mishap of whackin the Armco earlier that day and doing some damage to the T and bruising herself in the process (more on the news page).

Putting the tents up was a chore, so we hit the beer with some gusto as the night was in full swing and we weren't..... yet ;o)

There was a choice of entertainment, a Rock Band or a disco, we tried the disco as the Rock band marquee looked quite empty and the clubhouse where the disco was booming out was rammed....... with loads of people milling around outside to..  The music was of a 50's flavour and there were some hip chicks and groovy Dadio's jiving away to the hip hop sound (50's Hip hop that is).. It had a great Hot Rod style atmosphere, though I don't enjoy R & R it just sounded right and looked real fun if it was your scene.

We 3 bought a beer and moseyed on out-side where the throngs were. Had a crack with a few and just enjoyed looking at the quiffs, bouffant's and turnups everywhere.... Cool !

We thought we might try the Rock band, and I must admit I thought they were brilliant, they played some great Rock music and played it well. We just went from the Rock band to the disco when we needed another beer. The disco later went 70's Kak and so the Rock Band Marque was where we stayed till they finished.

I was really pissed and feeling a bit weird, I don't know what came over me, maybe it is the age thing, maybe to much beer, maybe I am just a numpty.... but I was watching the young lads bashing into each other in a make shift Mosh Pit at the front of the stage.... I got this overwhelming urge to join em.. and join em I did.. I ripped my shirt off and entered the battle with great gusty throwing the Moshers all over.... Ha Ha I felt strong and young again......................................

........then  I was slung to the floor......... ;-o by someone who had been watching me showing off and thought I'll show him... and show me he did, like a sack a spuds I was thrust to the floor and now I felt old an knackered and prayed for the the song to finish soon, real soon..... I wont be doing that again ;-)

More beer was supped and a nice and sensible 2.30am bedtime meant we would be up with the lark in the morning!!!

We were woken around 9am by a real noisy Cobra drag car.. ....and finally made it up by 10am, we all felt Kak... but after the mandatory bacon butty and coffee all was well, and we had a good look round at what had turned up.

The racing was underway  by 12pm, there were some great runs from the Rodders.

I don't get the Jet Car .. never have, didn't see why it was taking up valuable Rodders strip time, but hey I guess it keeps the kids and those not really into the rods entertained and gives those who have not seen a really quick car an insight at to what some drag cars can do, and at a 6 sec pass, it didn't disappoint,  that's for sure.

Crusty kickin up a storm in the revamped T

Anyway, there were a couple of oil downs but they were soon sorted and it gave us time to go feed and water ourselves and get some more photos. There were trade stands to look round with Geordie Paul putting on a fantastic display of Rodding gear.

I had a crack with a few people I know and some I wasn't to sure who they were ;o) I have gotton to know some seriously nice people through doing this web site.  I must apologise to everyone who I called by the wrong name Sunday, I realised after at least 5 people had gone, I had called them the wrong name.... My head is a bit in tatters at the mo and especially was then.. I am not really tuned in any more.. still it is pretty much the end of the season now, so I hope I am back into the swing of things and more relaxed and happy for the start of the 2006 season...

This was my Favorite, I asked for a photo with the owner stood by it, as it would of made a great shot, but he looked at me like I was a right friggin nuisance and said "no!! just take a photo of the car" and walked away ;o) I see all these set up photo's with people posing and all the arty farty stuff and long to do some, as cars on there own soon become samey and lack life... maybe I need to flash some kind of card eh!! "Hey UK-Hotrods here how  about a shot of you and your Car for the web site" Ha Ha... na cant see anyone taking any notice of it can you ;o)

Paul Nichols out for his first Drag meet in the recently acquired Wild & Ratty looking Pop, goes heads up with Crusty, Paul's 15 sec pass loosing out to Crusty's low 13sec  T

I really liked this 32, with zoomie pipes and deep cherry paint, the interior was stunning and the low slung flattie just rounded the crossplied package off perfect.

Was nice to see a few shiney Rods there, these 2 both choosing unusual roof treatment, I like the Duval and hard top.

Mega cool Pop with bang on stance, Chevy truck was for sale and very well made Beautiful!

I must apologise to anyone who hoped to see a few strip times on here, I really should get more organised and write stuff down I know.. but then this becomes work and I don't want work... ;o) If anyone ever fancies trying to make this site more accurate in its reporting and more professional in its approach, then feel free to write stuff for me to include.... or maybe there is some budding Hot Rod loving reporter and web site wizz who would like to take over this site and expand it? I am open to offers ;o)
