When I came back from the Cruise, Kev Reilander had put up
his tent, but he was no where to be seen. One of
the uk_hotrods members (Dave Crees) had directed him to the space we had been saving
for him. It was great to have such a cool car camped with us and when he came
back on three wheels '>) and parked up it was a constant cause of intrigue to
everyone who passed. He
was only to pleased to spend time showing of his beautiful lowrider to all who
showed interest. One group was from channel 5 the TV program called 5th gear and
they did
a big interview with him and the car should be on TV soon. Kev did all the tricks much to the
amusement of the presenter who was juggled and jostled about in side the Ponty
even to the point of banging his head on the head lining, Kev said "that's
why the headlining is padded". My daughter and her friend where offered a
ride in the Lowrider and where now very animated and kept asking me "when's he
gonna take us out?" So much so I thought they were gonna burst with excitement.
Then a large group of bods came up the track and stopped at Kev's beauty and where
very interested in what it was. They asked all about it and Kev gave em a proper demo of
its capabilities which just left em Awestruck. The large gang turned out to be
the Saturday nights entertainment a Ska band. They where friendly and lively so I
knew we were in for a very good night's entertainment. After what seemed like an age for my
daughter and friend kev found some time to give them a spin/hop round. He must
of been getting tired by now of showing it off as it had been constant but he
never showed any sign of it and even looked pleased to do it *Top Man*. Kev had brought his car to show off Sunday and needed his batteries
at full whack and every time he used em it left less juice to do its stuff. And
not once did he refuse to show people his cars hopping capabilities what a very
Cool and nice guy he is!
When
the Girls came back he was hopping it and dropping it the full works and they
ended up a couple of giggly ninnies and he really did make there day... Thanks
Kev!
Kev Rooney was also here with us and had just been interview by the same channel 5 crew, Kev was telling us about his woes on the trip up, he had used more oil than fuel. Which turned out to be a pin hole in his sump and on a flat piece of sound looking metal aswell Damn annoying is to mild a description. Marion (Kevs misses) had earlier chewed some gum to bung the hole as a temporary measure which worked strange as it seems, But later the problem was solved more permanently with some plastic metal. Kev Rooney is such a Cool dude and I feel blessed to know him. He is so respected in our Hobby that I hardly had a proper chance to have the crack with him as he was constantly in deep conversation with people and being the kind of guy he is he will always have time for people who want to spend time with him *respect*
Then it was time for me Barby and a few Beers which was much needed but soon scoffed and forgotten as now it was time to have a good look round the Campsite and check out the Rods and take a few snaps. (Has anyone a photo of Kevs Kool Kapri I thought I had taken one but I hadn't derr please send me one pronto before he finds out *whoops*).
I started looking round the camp site to get some snaps of the
cars that took my eye before I had to much of a wobble on!
Saw this
rather neat and different Pop Pick-up parked up on the hard standing, though not
finished it showed great potential to me and I loved the front indicators which
were 12v mini spot lamp bulbs don't know if ya buy em yellow or he had painted
em but what a neat little bulb and must be very bright unlike most side markers
that a lot of us use *neat*!
This Cool looking 37 cabriolet owned and built by local Birmingham Rodder
Eric Hollins using Mercury monarch running gear Cool! This was also one Rod I couldn't remember seeing
before
and I love it, it just oozed class if it drives only half as good as it looks it
must be pure street Rod heaven eh!
There were quite a lot of stockers dotted around, if they are there cus there owners were still building their Rods or Kustoms then Ok. I wonder sometimes though if they do own Rods at all and as the camping spaces are limited I do hope they didn't stop any finished cars being able to camp, as I know quite a few where unable to camp as the site was full.
I used to hate it when we used to go out on a Sunday cruise with the Rainy City guys and people turned up in stockers as to me it is an insult. It is like saying yeah I like your cars but I am not stoopid enough to own one, yet they want to be part of the scene. We put up with all the hassle that goes with a Rod etc and the low gas mileage etc while they don't!!! Am I wrong to think this *hum?* it does Gaul me though and I don't let much get to me usually! ;>) Jeez I went off on one then eh Ha Ha .
Where was I? Oh
yeah saw this really nice A just finished 6 O'clock the previous morning and he had
traveled up with the rear brakes locking on. See what I mean about the hassle some go
to to get there in their Rods *respect*
Man!
This Phone Booth T just knocks me out or is it called a Doctors Coupe never to
sure. I am reliably informed this belongs to the one and only Alan Spittle and
he has had this since the 70's I can remember it then and I loved it and still
do not many Rods that you can say that about eh!. It is such a different shape it must just blow people
away when they see it coming down the Road at em. Fraid I wouldn't have the
bottle to drive it or an open T for that matter I love em like, but just would be
to self conscious as you are so open but I would love to see it actually on the
move it is proper neat eh!"
There
was quite lot of interest in a flip fronted Pop just parked a bit down from me
and I was told all about it by a few people so I had to check it out. It was a
Pro street style Pop which looked and sat so fine! All ally paneled inside to a
standard mere mortals like me can only dream of. It was really shear perfection
for this style of Rod. No creature comforts (must be a young dude). This Pop was
to take best of show on the Sunday.
I have seen this Orange,... Man Orange is to weak a description
of this colour maybe Tangerine Candy is more close? The paint job is just shear
mind bogglingly cool :>).. And is wearing well people where telling me to
check out other paint jobs but this is one that really stuns me... *nice one
Man*
By now I was getting really thirsty and sweaty so what to do? I know!! have a
beer or two, stink a while longer have a natter with a few people then shower
ready for the nights revelry later!!
I really would of preferred to chill out round the camp site with a bunch of fellow Rodders and sup my 50p a tin Cooking Lager but no my misses was now feeling much better and wanted some entertainment, poor soul don't get out much and so I had to do the decent thing and a few of the guys from the uk hotrods group where up for the Ska band and a crack in the bar so the bar it was!!
And was I glad I had made the effort even if it was to rob
all me much needed gas money ;>0.... Kev Reilander don't sup beer and said he
would rather have a tea but did accept my offer of a Bitter Shandy, Dave Crees
nurse's one bottle all night and my misses was on shandy, boy was I gonna look
like a P*ss head or what??? But my mate Bakey (Pete with the Pop whoops sorry
Anglia) came to save the day and we got into some serious drinkin! Soon our gang
doubled and we had a great old Crack. Pete was entertaining everyone with his
magic tricks which he is very good at and knows a lot more than he could do with
a slight slope on! Dusty Laugher (Cool Dude) joined us and looked almost nice
enough to take home to meet ya Mam now he has weighed all his piercing in for
scrap to pay for his new engine!! Ha Ha!
Johnny Best had us all going as he quite seriously told us of his hidden 400watt
amp and 10 disc cd changer and sub woofers he is gonna put in his nostalgia
Coupe Yeah right ya nearly got us Besty but we all know R&R only sounds good
in mono and played through a Binatone tape player preferably with only one
speaker working proper and the other cracklin ;>)........Terrrr!
The Ska band came on and where a brave move by the NASC not everyone's taste if
ya asked but the dance floor was full. I enjoy live music what ever, these
guys were professional and did what they came to do entertain and they gave it
their all and looked like they enjoyed it as much as the crowd *round of applause*
for the NASC and the Ska band!
The night wouldn't be complete without some nudity but shame it was a bloke, but
my two 13yr old's looked like they enjoyed his dangly antics *hum?* I was aware
of a dude walking round all night looking very p*ssed and was sans shirt all
night showing off his Tattoos... I asked Dusty who the Dude was and he said
"oh that's Yoda" He just sups all night and is Ok, looked like a true
Nutter to me wonder what he's like sober? Its characters like Yoda that make the
Rod runs nights entertaining and memorable don't ya reckon! ;>)... My daughter and friend were in deep conversation as
only teenagers can with some young lads and they looked like they were having a
good time!! Later on the way back to the caravan they were telling me about
these gorgeous lads they had met and I said "who had they come with?"
" er the M'Hula Crew" and my daughter said the lad she was talking to
had said see that guy walking round (Yoda) he's my dad and he's Rock Hard"
;>)....... ....... I must have serious talk to my daughter very very
soon.... :>)
