Sunday was the Show day as usual, this is the day we get chance to see all the Rods in one place, also it gives us a suitable window to show off our hobby to the great unknown and a day for all the other Rod owners, who couldn't make the whole weekend to come find out what they have been missing. While I could relax as there was no polishing for me to do today, all around there was some serious Rod cleaning going on, so I sat back supped me coffee and took in the scenery :>)
Lisa Stokes gets into some serious cleaning which paid off, as the Truck was
to be in the winners circle on Monday.
On our way to the show field we passed a line of cars for sale, I thought what a neat idea having them all in one place, I hope this is a regular way of doing things. The top of the show field had most of the cream of the crop there, not sure if this just happened, was organised by the NASC or organised by the Rodders. It sure made a very impressive sight, instead of the odd one dotted about they could be viewed all in the same area Cool! Only Frank Carrol's stunning Red Red 34, as I remember was roped, the others you could get up all close and personal. There was so much stuff there, it was going to take all day I could see, my and the wife daughter etc all seemed to enjoy the experience so all day it would be then :>)
Apart
from the usual favourites, like Franks 34 the Alloway style flamed 37, Simon
Phillips 32 and so on, the one that stood out to me was this excellent 46 Chevy
Truck. So many touches that made it work for me, the choice of colour/s the
unchopped but radically lowered look works oh so well. The big chromed grill,
with a set of 20" billets completing the package superbly. The 46 is one of the
rarest beasts, as you had to have special permission in 46 America to get a new
vehicle made as the War was on, so I wonder what the story is with this one.
Stunning!
The show field was awash with cars and people, the trade stands seemed to be doing brisk trade, there was even a Tattooist on site. I met a few guys from the e-mail group that is run from this web site, I had some uk-hotrods car stickers made up and we arranged to meet so they could pick em up, Mobile phones do have their uses sometimes.
I had a good crack with superstar Rod builder, Steve'y Lang, who has been advising me on how to go about the jag suspension swap on my F100, without Steve's advise and encouragement I would never get it done or even started cheers Mate!
59 El Caminos are just so Cool.
70's -80's style Pop looked totally at home, not sure if it is in the style
of, or is a genuine Old Rod. Gorgeous Chevy Truck was for sale... *hum?* made me
wish I hadn't started mine and just kept the money. I could be driving round
now, not pulling my hair out looking for bits for mine and just just dreaming
about driving it.... one day!
John Halls stunning 40's Ford.
This Truck Harley combo just knocked me out, so so Cool. Some people eh, they
just have that eye for what is right and have so much style... Give us some eh!
I know this is a Rod Site, so don't think I have gone bike mad (though I
have) I wont turn this site into Uk HotBike :>) I just had to show you this
Chop, I think it is Andrew Geekie's, it was hauled in on his truck so guess it
must be.. Though it don't match his truck now like the old one did, but this is
mega Groovy.
Roy Pitter's, Hot Rods and Choppers 55 Chevy Shop Truck , I think
Roy built the Chop shown above for Andrew Geekie.
Colin Jeffries Metalflake Jago. MG Magnet was neat had a DVD player installed
with full blown cinema surround sound which just didnt match its style, though
must make long journeys fun for its passengers.
Trade seemed brisk on the Sunday, with Duksville taking a big share look out
for Geordies new catalogue full of juicy stuff to buy.
Hot Rodders shoot the breeze on a Hot Sunday, what show day is all
about. Ya know people often complain errgh this car was there, that cars was there, what's the NASC doing letting
crap like that on the show field... I say where, were they parked? Honestly if I
don't like a certain car or its style doesn't interest me.. I just don't see it,
I don't stop look and go erkkk I honestly hand on heart, I don't see it, it
don't register in my brain at all, it just simply wasn't there for me. So I
never understand what the fuss is about.. just chill I say and look at the
cars you do like, don't dwell on the negative.. it spoils ya day. :>)
Saw these two Rods just cruise round as we walked about neat eh!
Kustoms sitting in the sun. Right is another shot of the Lincoln my Daughter
fell in love with and my first attempt at an arty type shot ;>)
After a good look round the show field, we made our way to the Hot Rod Art exhibition, this was a first for any UK Rod Run that I know of. When I was asked to advertise it on my news page, I thought arty farty stuff nobody will be interested. But thankfully I was very very wrong, not only were the artists themselves up for it, so were the paying public. We spent quite a long time looking round the indoor exhibits. I did hear an unconfirmed rumour, Chris Bunting from Scotland sold all his work that he had on show to one guy, for quite a few English pounds. The exhibits ranged from a 57 Zodiac rear trunk made into a settee £2.5K to you sir, to cartoon Rod paintings with everything in-between.
The sun and Cider was beckoning outside (philistine) so we gave in to our base desires and left the Art exhibition all the better people for seeing it though. We had some spicy food first, from the catering area and real good it was to, set us up nicely for some cold Cider. The Indoor bar and stage was alive when we got there, the band from the Cruise were in full swing complete with the striping French maid which made a great day even greater, ya cant beat a bit of female nudity to get a day rolling. Every where you looked there was gangs of Rodders having a good time, Rods where parked everywhere, it really did feel like you were part of something very very special.
Two cool Rides sat outside where the bar and food area was, show me a better
sight than this, Red hot sunshine a cool beer in your hand ahhhhh Heeven!
After another afternoon tipple, the miss's made her way back to the caravan, while I felt I needed another look round the cars and the trade stands.
Saw this only on the Sunday it's just gotta be steel looks proper cherry had two
female types in it as well, just in the background you can see a couple of
Harleys both these were ridden in by females looks like it isn't just a man
thing..... There is just something about the female form astride a big bike that
makes me quiver *shudder* all over Dribble :>)
Mike Noble seldom shows his cars, but does drive em none stop. I caught him just
going for a test drive after his Uj Problem. I also managed to get him to show
me his new tattoos *Rodder for life* He had the top one done last week at The
Bull Dog Bash which he said was the best weekend he had ever had, the Von Dutch
..ish poolball was done here at the Nats.... Mid Life crisis who me :>) Ha Ha me
and Mike had a good laugh about this, I am having one now, just had a massive
Tattoo done bought a motorbike growing my hair the whole nine... well maybe 8
1/2 yds.... I guess Mike is hitting his a bit earlier than me :>)
Morris 8? looked great Pro streeted.. What can you say a simply stunning 34,
owned by Barry Biscoe, going to sprout a set of Limefire headers very soon,
courtesy of John Golding.
Louis Pastel or what ? Some bright paint choices from the European guys!
This is how I pretty much want my F100 to look. My jaw dropped when I saw it,
yep that was it, that is my dream f100 sat right there, it already has been
built... Corrrr :>) I couldn't believe it, I peered underneath and low and
behold it had Jag suspension all-round. The front is bagged, so mine wont be
this low, which is a shame, the interior was stunning, yet the original dash
remained. It made me wonder if I had not started mine, would my stack of cash of
bought this one? I desperately wanted to speak with the owner, see how he did
certain things. I met his mate, who said he was around somewhere, I waited for
about 1/2 an hour but no sign. I was convinced this must be a début car, but no
the guy I spoke to said it was about 10yrs old... stunning... Now I am dreaming.
I will just keep looking at this photo to inspire me to get mine done as soon as
humanly possible and aswell as I can do it....... *drool*
Soon be night-time and the famous or infamous Sunday night Nats Party was to
come and this is were we shall all be heading.
It was all to soon the end of the show day.... but is was now the show night, so suitable fed and refreshed at the local hostilery, we made our way up to the venue. Mucho beer was washed down our gullets while we waited for the stars of the show...... Sla........well they cant be called Slade without Noddy Holder can they? but the funny one with the top hat was still in the line up and the drummer I think, so Sla it was....... Everyone was in party spirit but not so many numpties this time, I don't know why though? I wasn't complaining as guys in dresses I think are very strange. One gang were dressed in Christmas hats, I think they were having their Christmas party.
I was really just into the company I was in, to see what else was going on to be honest. But Slade where brilliant entertainment and I enjoyed every minute they were on stage, the lead singer sounded more like Noddy Holder than Noddy himself. One thing I did notice, maybe it was just me, but the lack of pissed up idiots, were noticeable by their absence. I remember going to the Nats a couple of year back and being shocked at the amount of proper staggering drunk Numpties there was there. This year, just a couple of staggerer's. The only staggering Rodder I encountered shall remain nameless, lets just call him Johnny Best for now.. he was in a jolly old mood, when we met him, he had a proper stagger on... mind you it was his birthday..... slightly more than the Nats 30th I reckon :>) We had a good swap of slurred words with him and last saw him wobbling back into the bar... The only other casualty was the lovely Suzie who wasn't feeling quite so lovely as her problem was a heavy cold not heavy alcohol session... *shame* as her and Pike had had, a bit of a bummer weekend with the Truck also being poorly with a sick starter, they failed to fix all weekend despite all attempts to sort.
The night went quick in fact far to quick, but it wasn't fully over as again it would carry on back at Camp Acme. Things do get a bit hazy now but I can remember my miss's ending up on the floor and Spatch showing me his tattooed member *ouch* all flamed up it was.. in fact I have been sent a photo for the web site.. er not sure yet whether to put it on or not... *Hum?* I remember my miss's also looking like she was up for it and I knew if Sandra did her party trick for definite she would be joining her, so I called her over to me pretty damn sharp'ish.. I know we had a blast for a few hours after the end of the Nats Party, but not sure how long.... it was to be a long day for us tomorrow, so we called it a night and hit the sack... The Nats was coming to an end awwwwhhhh ;>(
