I concentrated on the engine bay, today all fresh from a week in Benidorm I didn't like the restrictive nature of the block huggers headers, so I bought the snake pit ones seen in the last page and that threw up all sorts more problems, one being that the steering now wanted to go through the headers..
I hade to cut the engine and trans mounts off, to move the block and trans back 1 inch to give clearance for the steering, that meant I had to cut some holes in the bulkhead... I tacked the mounts back on (out of plumb I might add) which were perfectly lined up before.. I stood back looked at it and thought Wow what have I done? I have fukked it all up, gone back several months and made myself even more work ahhhgghhhh. I also found out as I have the front Jag crossmember rubber mounted, as per Jag, the steering shaft could not be solid mounted, as most others have done, who have done this conversion, as this wont move with the crossmember on hard bumps. I was advised by Langy who found the problem on his, to use the original Jag movable Uj and shaft. ahhh haaa right then, enter yet more problems.
I vowed to do no more until the steering was finished......I thought I had it all sussed after an e-mail to Borgeson, who said they could supply me with the 5/8ths x 36 spline Uj that would bolt up to the Jag moveable UJ & shaft.... Jason Springate who has become a good mate, through my e-mail group also, said he could make me up a piece of splined shaft to extend the extra inches needed to fill from one Uj to the next.... then the crunch, Borgeson now inform me there are two different spline profiles, that are both 5/8ths (620thouh) x 36 spline one Chrysler, one Chevrolet. and nobody and I mean nobody, knows which one is the same as Jag....
Oh yeah one positive that came out of all this grief, is I can now easily change the oil as the sump plug is now past the crossmember... engine may look shit in the engine bay as it is so far back, but hey I can change the oil ;o)
