I was a bit late eating my dinner for this cruise, so me and my dad went in the
car. It was once again a warm sunny evening, and was actually the first
Wakefield Cruise I'd been to since December, due to the bad weather.
Reg had decided to go in the racer, which was it's first cruise of the year.
It's had no changes during the winter, as it didn't need any. For those who
don't know it has a narrowed Model A frame, aftermarket tube front axle with
hairpints, Escort back axle on hairpins, and a aquaplane tuned 100E engine. It's
also an actual 1937 Ford racing car, and definetley the only one on the road in
England.
Andy was also there in the T, sporting a model A grille and no bonnet
sides. He had infact cut it very close for getting to the cruise, having to use
a hot air gun to cure the fiberglass holding the grille insert in minutes before
setting off. It runs a Pop front axle, 60s Ford back axle and a 1300GT Ford Crossflow.
Al was there in his new Sierra, pictured in the April Leeds Cruise report.
This time I managed to get some good photos of it, including a picture under the
bonnet. By the way something I forgot to mention in the Leeds Report. When the
car was parked up at the cruise, some to***r had sat on the bonnet and dropped
fag ash and fries all over it. They had also managed to force the dzus fastener
round (the ones that require a key), leaving it unable to open. This really gets
me angry, as it is somebody else's property and should be respected.
Noddy was there in his 50s Ford. He has now got a new project, a '40 Ford
pickup which is to be hot rodded. He has already been on a trip to the States
and come back with a few suitcases and shipping crates worth of parts. It will
run a hot small block Chevy eventually.
60's Mercury Monterey is a regular at the cruises, and still a superb looking
machine.
Not a hot rod I know, but this DeTomaso Pantera hid a surprise in the rear. A
very tuned 351ci Ford Cleveland!!!!!. The car took 6 years to restore, which
included making a new roof. The body is also all steel which was a surprise to me
as I thought it would be fiberglass. I'm sure it goes just fine lol.
60's Bullnose Pontiac Firebird was a new visitor to the cruise. Looked very
tough on the Centrelines.
There's the usual Classic and Modern Yanks that turn up at the cruise, mostly
Chevrolets. Shown here are 2 Vette's and a Trans Am.
This Ford F-1 pickup was awesome. You can just picture some gool ol' boys
loading it up with hay and racing round the farm.
5 window 32 is owned by Tony from Huddersfield I think. It runs a 390ci Big
Block Ford, Jag rear and tube front axle. Goes like sh** off a shovel lol.
And finally gotta include the comedy car of the night award. It goes to this
Baja bug. I have nothing against Baja bugs, infact they're pretty cool, but going
by the large rattles coming from the engine of this one I'm not sure if it would
have made it home.
That's it till next week, when I'll do a Leeds Cruise report. Neil's
Springnats is on at the same time, so turnout will be slightly down.
See ya
Matt
