Sheffield Cruise By Matt Smith

Me and Andy had a bit of confusion prior to the Sheffield Cruise. We originally thought it was on a Friday, which would have been interesting if we'd have gone. Luckily we discovered it was on a Saturday so at about 7pm we set off in the T. The weather was lovely and sunny, and the turnout was excellent considering it was the first time the cruise had been run. I later discovered that the cruise started somewhere around 5.30pm.

There was a strong turnout of 60s and 70s musclecars there, along with a few rods, some Corvettes and a few Brit cars.

Steel City Cruisers members Paula and Martin Nortcliff's stunning '56 Chevy and '39 Chevy respectively are well known to most hot rodders. The newly pinstriped flames on the '39 really bring them alive.

Pete Tyas' 1940 Ford Kustom has the straightest black paint job I've ever seen. I've honestly never seen anything like it. Pete had removed the Carson top for the cruise because of the glorious weather. With Melissa Gee applied Amazing Pinstriping.

Also a member of the Steel City cruisers, Ray brought along his '57 Chevy. For people who don't recognise it, until the start of last season it was a mild Kustom, wearing steel and caps and fender skirts on the wheels. A rear wheel coming adrift on the motorway forced Ray to get the 5 spokes.

Since last season Sue Tyas's 32 Roadster has had the lower body painted cream. It runs a heavily disguised Rover V8.

Keith Freeman's 5 window coupe has had some changes over the winter. The easiest to see is the new wheels and tyres. The rear tyres were bigger than before and caught on the fenders. Sadly the fender brackets couldn't hold and they fell of. Damn lol.

This '55 Chevy was a scrapper when Martin Nortcliffe got hold of it, he has now remade it into this stunner for a friend. I think the blue '57 Chevy is the one that used to be fade painted Blue to White.

Shaun Butler's '47 Chevy Fleetmaster has always been one of my favourites since it was in it's old green paint scheme. Since it was painted gold at the start of last season it has won a few trophies and gained a feature in Custom Car.

I can't remember the name of the owner of this stunning '32 B roadster, but I know he won the car of the cruise award given by the NASC.

Ian Hassals '46 Ford has also been featured in Custom Car. It runs airbags on the front. He was going out and driving throughout the cruise.

Tidy Mk2 Cortina hid a 302ci Ford V8. It is owned by Chris McCullough. Gary Leece's Mk3 Capri has similar treatment, but with a injected late model Mustang engine.

MOPAR!!!!!

60s Mustang saloon and Chris Osbourne's lengthened 100E looked great.

All in all it was a superb night so big thanks to the NASC for promoting the cruise. Next one is on 26th June I think, but i'll check and get back to ya. Long may it continue.

See ya
Matt
